Coaching: Ethics and Legalities

How do you determine what is ethical?

By thinking about what is in accordance to the common standards of the society and my own values and what I perceive as  ethical for me or in other words what it I perceived as ethical and right.

in the case of coaching, by using ICF and ICA recommendations and what is included in their ethical code and ethical recommendations; as well as the ICF and ICA’s  guide lines for coach’s responsibilities or coach standards such:

1. Discover, clarify and align with what the client wants to achieve

2. Encourage client self-discovery and exploration

3. Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies

4. Hold the client as responsible and accountable

5. Support the client in their journey

As I stick to the ICF ethical standard and coach responsibilities and by . . . .

 

As I stick to the ICF ethical standard and coach responsibilities and by thinking about what is ethical for me and the reviewing the general known social (where I live and work) ethical and moral principles; or in other words what it is perceived as ethical and right.

What could hold someone back from ethical behaviors?

– A conflict between values/ethics and other personal issues (i.e. greed).

– Not caring for his current customers and the future of his/her business ( as any unethical business will not be successful in the long ran)

How would you go about setting an ethical standard when something doesn‘t feel right?

I will try to develop my standards ahead of time (before starting my business) and make sure they are well communicated in my marketing (webpage, fliers, etc) campaigns and its review when stsrtinga relationship with a new client,

If I am missing something (when something doesn‘t feel right). be open bring the issue up and address it.

What will you use to help you develop your ethical framework?

By using ICF and ICA recommendations and what is included in their ethical code and ethical recommendations; as well as the ICF and ICA’s guide lines for coach’s responsibilities or coach standards.

Developing, our own ethics Manual or procedures. We should Include this information in our Marketing documents and websites.

Join a professional body (ICF) and hire professionals to set-up our own business to minimize risks and get the right business set-up from day one.
