Power Listening

My Wonderful Listening Skills

I have tried to be a good listener, as describe in my earlier reflection on the power listening exercise;

As I reflect on my attitudes and the impact of them in my listening skills; maybe due to my training as Operations Leader, I tend to quickly try to seek for problems,
root causes, identify potential solutions, and take actions. I realize now that when having conversations with people in my organization, I try to suggest and
provide options, solutions and recommendations instead of trying to have deeper attention to what people think, what ideas do they have ? in other words using power
listening, maybe using the Socratic method of questioning a bit more; this way, I can help people to find their own conclusions.

Also as “an expert” on my role tend to judge and/or think on my next comment or question, instead of being present and listening emphatically (with the heart or my whole body !) as I am responsible for the results of my business….you may laugh now.

You may think he is really bad listener… and I may, but outside the work environment I remove my “management” attitude and try to do listening more
emphatic less judgmental. However I honestly believe this is an area for me to work to be an effective coach, as I have been in contact with great listener I
know how that will look like.

But as a coach, or I should say as an effective coach, I will need to keep practicing my listening skills more and more as it is fundamental  for my success not only in coaching but in
many aspects in life.
