Power Tools in Coaching – Action and Communicating

Creating Action
Action is a fundamental focus in coaching. Although planning and goal setting are part of a process to move a client from one place to another, successful coaching requires the client to take action as this is the only way to achieve their goals and with it have a successful coaching relationship.

Communication in Coaching
Among the aspects that have an impact in communication are:

1. – Individuals personalities: (introverted vs. extroverted)
2. – Personal experience: (being allowed to speak as a boy or limited)
3. – Practice experience: (communication self-confidence, trained and practice on group speaking)

These three aspects will have an impact on communication from their “perceptual positions” and from the skills learned due to their personality and practices.

Some of the aspects that will help or will negative impact communication as well are;

1. – Respect
2. – Understanding the meaning of real message (sender’s perspective)
3. – Good interpretation of the message (receiver’s perspective)
4. – Language and word usage
5. – Understanding of cultures between the two subjects (global interactions)
6. – Understanding unspoken language (body language)

As coaches we need first to develop trust with a new client, understand the meaning of his/her words or language, body language clues, background, experiences that have an impact on their communication. Especially important is to convey a sincere communication with respect and true empathy.

During coaching I am trying to use a language that creates an atmosphere of confidence to my client in which they can feel free and secure to share their thoughts.

As a coach, one of our tasks is to listen to a message and to feed that message back to your client.
Hearing a message spoken back to the transmitter, your client is a great way to raise their awareness of how they communicate and the language they use. It is also a great way for your clients to see their UB‘s.

I maybe relate the message with the person that delivered to me. Also maybe brought similar situations to my mind when I had a bad experience. The lack of self-awareness and self-confidence can bring us to misinterpret the message on any communication or when receiving any feedback.
